Islam Awareness Week

Sheridan students and Islam Awareness Week guests show their support of the Green Square Campaign to remember the victims and survivors of the Quebec City mosque attack.

Please join Sheridan’s Muslim Students’ Association (MSA), Sheridan Student Union (SSU), Sheridan staff, faculty and community partners for a week of solidarity and exchange where Sheridan community members of all backgrounds and beliefs can come together to raise awareness of the issues facing members of the Muslim community.

We remember Ibrahima Barry, Mamadou Tanou Barry, Khaled Belkacemi, Abdelkrim Hassane, Azzedine Soufiane as the Muslim fathers, husbands, loved ones and colleagues that lost their lives on January 29, 2017, in an act of terror. In honour of the memory of the victims, The National Day of Remembrance of the Québec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia serves as a reminder of the work we must do as a nation to end Islamophobia, hate and racism in Canada.

The Green Square Campaign

takes place in the week leading up to January 29th every year to remember the victims and survivors of the Quebec City mosque attack. The green square represents the green carpets of the Quebec City mosque, where the victims last stood to pray.

Wear the green square in honour and solidarity for every person suffering the consequences of this hateful and tragic act of violence.

Sheridan Multi-Faith Resources. Campus Prayer Rooms, SSU Faith Groups, Centre for Indigenous Learning and Support. Community Places of Worship.

We understand there may be a heightened need to pray, meditate or reflect at this time. Sheridan’s multi-faith prayer rooms remain available on our campuses. Working with the Muslim Student Association, Sheridan has enhanced these rooms and worked to ensure they have been available throughout the pandemic.

Davis Campus, C-Wing (C323) : This room contains a temporary divider for those requiring the separation of specific groups. This location does not have an ablution room, however many washrooms in C-Wing have foot baths for ablution.

Hazel McCallion Campus, B-Wing (B384): The temporary multi-faith prayer room has been moved from its previous location in B282. No ablution room is currently available. The permanent multi-faith prayer room in HMC A-Wing is closed at this time.

Trafalgar Campus, S-Wing (S434 and S410) : S434 and S410 rooms are separated by a wall for those requiring the separation of specific groups. Ablution rooms S410a and S410b are closed at this time.
